Holy Cross Montessori School, Gangtok is a Catholic Institution managed by Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, North-East Province. The Congregation was founded in Switzerland in 1856 by Fr. Theodosius Florentini OFM Cap and Mother Maria Theresa Scherer. The members of this congregation work in almost all the continents- America (North and South), Africa, Europe and Asia. The sisters reached India to take up the various apostolate in the year 1994. The sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, imbued with the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and inspired with founders of charism of compassionate love to all, value the apostolate of education of the charism. The motto of the congregation is - “The need of the time is the will of God”. Keeping the motto in mind the sisters have established centres in 17 states in India upto now, responding to the invitations of different societies and organisations. They serve the nation in various fields like formal and non-formal education, teachers training, nursing training, social work, vocational training programmes, hospitals, care of the old widows, orphans and so on. In all this, the poor, oppressed and socially ess privileged are given priority. We aimed at forming fully alive women and men who will live and work for others and contribute to the building up of just and fraternal society. Holy Cross at Gangtok, was started in the year 1979 and it is owned by West Bengal Holy Cross Sisters Society which is a registered society under the Societies registration Act. 1961. The school promotes co-education and it admits any child irrespective of caste, creed or social status.
